Round 1: Here

Round 3: [link] [link] [link]

I have dropped out of the main contest and therefore will not be in any of the future rounds. Expect to see a lot of Jon in the mini-contests.

--------------------------
And after long deliberation, I submit this with mere hours to spare. Well done, Ete.

Jonathan
Bird keepers are a not-so-proud clan of trainers who have more or less mastered the art of awkwardly standing in one place and bothering people who walk by. For purposes of conserving trace amounts of his dignity, Jon decided not accept that expected role. After years of training, the young bird keeper became a “pseudo-badger” (what he and other bird keepers call the traveling trainers who obsess over collecting pins from various gyms) and began a journey to see outside his small ninja-town bubble.

About:
Jon does not approve of Falkner since he believes that Falkner is incapable and destroys the credibility of Bird Keepers everywhere (not that they had any to begin with… but why make things worse).

While having adopted the response “at least I’m not a hiker” to the many insult, Jon is very secure in himself and his pokemon. He is no stranger to losing, especially since he has a nasty habit of challenging people far out of his league, but he takes pokemon very seriously although he is not very competitive.

A lot of the time he yells at his pokemon, and calls them poultry, but he loves them greatly.

Personality:
Silly, lazy, oblivious towards events, observant towards battle techniques, quirky, indifferent, all of this while being spirited to the point of stupidity.

Strategy:
Perfectly aware of the disadvantages bird pokemon present, Jon makes elaborate plans on how to face different kinds of opponents so that despite type, he can find a way to win... or at least put up one hell of a fight. When he doesn’t know what he should do, he tends to taunt his opponents until he better understands their style and tries to make a plan to adapt to.

Around his neck, Jon wears a birdcall whistle. Other than being a pretty accessory, this whistle is how Jon commands his pokemon. Through use of this whistle and other various whistle noises, his pokemon receive their commands. There are three main reasons Jon prefers use of birdcalls to human speech: 1) shouting out strategies is a good way to tip your opponent off. 2) when he is flying with his pokemon, whistles are heard far more easily than trying to shout over the wind 3) his pokemon use the calls as well, so they can have complete conversations as well as his pokemon treating him more as a flock member than as a master. (it also weirds people out when he goes “basabasabasabasabasabasa chuun?!”)

All of his pokemon have a metal band on their left legs with their nickname and a number used for their medical records (which are used for treatments and any breeding that may one day happen) Jon has a larger band around his left wrist as an accessory and a symbol of their bond.

(r)Egret
Species: Fearow
Info: Bitter and snappy, Egret doesn’t make friends easily and has a loner streak. . Her feathers are ruffles and she looks pretty ragged. Egret respects Jon as a trainer, though she doesn’t always listen. Jon considers her his best friend.

Roc
Species: Pidgeot
“Aptly” named for the giant Arabian bird monsters, Roc is precise and deadly. He’s also unofficially the benevolent flock leader.

Pallas
Species: Noctowl
Info: Pallas is the oldest on the team, although she has not been around the longest. As badass as an old-timer can be, Pallas designs a good number of the strategies the team uses in battle.

Martlet
Species: Swellow
Info: Martlet is a self-absorbed prick a lot of the time, but he is loyal. Named for the medieval swallow charge, Martlet is very much a bird of chivalry and honor with a bravery and determination that is nearly suicidal.
Unofficial move: Kamikaze

Harrier
Species: Spearow
Info: Harry is the newest, youngest, smallest, and weakest of Jon’s pokemon and is by far the biggest handful. He has a bit of a Napoleon complex. Ferociously attacking anything that bothers him in an attempt to make himself appear more powerful. And, it has worked out for him. (Although he is the opposite gender of Egret, they will not be bred together. Just putting that out there)

Horus
Species: Pidgeotto
Info: Horus is Roc’s son and the only child of any of the pokemon Jon has ever had. Horus tends to stay out of the way and follow instructions very well, but Horus is a pacifist by nature and would rather fly than fight. However, if he feels his flock is threatened, he fights like a mother Kangaskhan. He and Harrier are best friends.
---

The alternative outfits are the clothing bird keepers wear throughout the various pokemon games. From left to right: FireRed/LeafGreen, Ruby/Saphire, and HeartGold/SoulSilver

Although I'm not sure it turned out great, this was really really fun to do. I may end up doing another purely for fun.

Enjoy, or not. Or do.
